January 15, 2019

Okay, before you get all worked up, no, it wasn’t me. I have crossed part of the Empty Quarters, but by car. British explorer Mark Evans, on the other hand, crossed the vast desert on foot, and lived to tell the tale through an exhibition at Oman’s National Museum. I’ve seen a lot of people quoting this lately, so I thought I’d show what dressing for a day in snow, wind and cold means 😉
Admiring the rather lifelike boat of #vikings at Stavanger’s Archeological museum. I love that the museum has devoted space not only to the men but also to Gudrun, Svåva, Svanhild, Herborg, Sigerlin og Niamh - the women. Sweep to see what they look like!
The #Geopark (#Geoparken) in #Stavanger is a rather innovative playground (swipe to see more pictures). It was built re-using parts of oil industry elements, honouring Stavanger’s position as the oil capital of Norway. It’s form represents the giant offshore Troll oil and gas field. Why bounce on a trampoline when you can bounce on buoys? #norwegiannomads #lifeinnorway #settlinginstavanger #explorestavanger #globalnomads #playgroundsacrosstheworld #playground #reuse
The three enormous bronze swords Swords in Rock (Sverd i fjell) stand monument to the battle of Hafrsfjord in the year 872, when Harald Hårfagre (Fairheaded Harald) united Norway into one kingdom. The swords symbolize peace and unity, and are planted in solid rock. I love them, because they remind me that diverse people can and should come together and move forward in unity and peace. #swordsinrock #stavanger #cominghome #lifeinnorway #peace #unity #unityindiversity
It’s time to say farewell to #Oman for now. This is my new neighborhood in #Norway and so far, it’s working out pretty well. Stay with me to learn about life in Norway!
Always wanted to cross the great Rub’ al Khali? Me too! And I did, by car; a fabulous 4 day adventure with good friends. Would you cross it on foot? I would never... but explorer Mark Evans did, following in the footsteps of Bertrand Thomas. Head to The Other Trail to read the full fascinating story of Mark’s desert crossing. Link in bio.
